I spoke with some people about Safari, Apple’s new web browser. They didn’t like tabs too much, but I told them “It is an option, and a lot of people do like them!”
When mentioning form passwords saved on the keychain, he said “this is in the works now.” Whoot!
They also agreed that it would be nice if forms auto fill showed up, but more powerful than IE’s version, with sets for Home, Work, etc, etc.
While talking with an Apple staffmember about iDVD and not supporting anamorphic, he mentioned that DVD Studio Pro did anamorphic movies.
I then noted how iDVD and DVD Studio Pro are on different planets in terms of ease of use. He replied:
“I can’t comment on unannounced product.”
So I took this and later in the conversion said “I would pay $100 for an iDVD Pro that let me do anamorphic movies.” and he replied, “Again, I cannot comment on unannounced product.”
Given the advent of Final Cut Express, it only makes sense that Apple is either beefing up iDVD into a Pro version, or making DVD Studio Pro usable by humans and coming out with an Express version.
Final Cut Express shows Apple is listening. At ONE THIRD the cost of Final Cut Pro, FCE does everything I want, including:
titles
non-linear editing
chapters
anamorphic video
etc, etc
One thing I cannot confirm is if FCE stores the timecode for clips, allowing you to dump the media and re-record that clip media off tape at a later time.
Am using Safari 1.0 beta to post this entry. Safari looks nice for a first attempt. Not sure it is always faster than Chimera. Since Safari does not support tabbed browsing, nor does it use the keychain to store form passwords, I’m sticking with Chimera.
Those interested in seeing these features in Safari, please use the bug icon in the upper right corner of the window to submit bug reports, asking for these features! Apple will only add them if we ask.
As far as the new powebooks go, wow. I am drooling. I think I will wait though, as that 17″ looks just too damn big. Did you see how wide it was in a first class seat sitting on Mini Me’s lap? Not coach, but first class.
Also, I have no bags that would hold it. Not even my backpack. So an additional expense.
However, the new keyboard, the new materials (maybe cooler, less fan noise?) and the airport reception may have me spending money I really don’t have. Sigh, heh.

Supposed to be released tomorrow, the new .mac Address book integration is live and running. Clicking on your address book gives you the option to turn on synchronization and once you do that and reload the page, all of your address book entries show! This is only if you have used iSync to sync your address book to .mac of course, and you need to have a .mac account.
McDonalds and Apple Computer Inc annouced today that due to lagging sales at both companies, they have teamed together to form the Big iMac. Shipping with Secret Sauce 2.0, the Big iMac is “one hell of a tasty Mac,” according to Steve Jobs. Also on the new Dollar Menu is smallPod, an MP3 Player that holds 4 songs and comes free in Happy Meals. New Mac OS X software includes “MacBurgler” and “Clownin Around” for kids age 3-12
I’ve had some incredible experiences as of late - None of which I will recount, but conversations, awakenings, metaphysical “ahas” which are not quite at the level of an epiphany. Somehow the cosmic slide rule is in motion and the numbers are starting to make sense in a bizarre manner.
Gears aligning, stars opening up from the heavens, rain drops fresh on the scalp. No idea where it is all leading me, but no longer as afraid to take the steps. Repetition, in thought and pattern, to help come to a more consistent train of thought.
Skyways of thoughts, interconnected by a programme of networked emotional traffic officers, making sure everything gets to it’s proper destination as close to on schedule as can be.
New avenues being christened, the tar not quite dry. Still wanting to take the prototypical vehical for a spin.
Happy New Years from Apple! iCal and iSync have both received updates. You must download them from the site, no Software Update is available as of this entry.
For iSync, new additions include supporting the web accessed address book. YAY! This will go live after Jobs’ keynote next Tuesday. Also improved (but not tested) is the palm conduit setup. I will test the palm conduit when I return home.
iCal launches about 20 times faster now. Nice work, team! It remembers the window size! And better yet, it remembers a different window size for each viewing mode (day, week, month)
Events still overlay other events oddly, instead of showing them side by side (two events for the exact same time frame. Think multiple tracks of classes)
iCal is much zippier now. I have not tried importing, etc.
Thanks, Apple! Congratulations on the great progress!
I’ve been wandering through life for some 36 1/2 years now. I think I had blinders on between 6th grade and age 31. As I have been maturing and growing, meeting new people who open new avenues of life up to me, I have been starting to get to know myself a little better.
I feel so sad that I went through life so narrowly focused for so long. I am now experiencing new things that are really opening my eyes, and meeting new people who I would normally avoid and opening myself to their beliefs and trying to understand, while still holding onto my own beliefs. It is a tricky wire to walk, but I am starting to learn how to balance myself.
I am meeting new people more and more often, and I am so appreciative of that. I appreciate my friends greatly and I hope they know that. My friends help me grow and I hope in some small way, I help them grow as well.
I pray that as I continue to wander through life, I notice more of the scenery nature has to offer while keeping a trained sense on the path I am taking.
This is a very good article for Apple. Sure some people have problems with their Macs - they are just metal, silicon, bolts and such after all. But when PC people beat on a Powebook and then praise it, something is working right.
I want to wish everyone a Happy New Year! May 2003 bring you peace and happiness and the strength to deal with the hardships that may come.
Last night Mark picked me up and we went to Steve’s place. Mark was kind enough to leave his sis’ dinner, he even picked up Subway. Note: Never loosely plan a party. Six sandwiches, a large pizza, 12 cokes, 12 rootbeer, 8 waters and 2 bags of chip later, the three of us sat down to watch a movie. LOL
No, we didn’t eat it all. We took some home.
Matt came over after 1am, having spent NYE with his finacé, Roslynn (good on you, Matt!) Steve and I played a couple of games of Magic - split the games and had a good time!
Thank you to all of my friends I made in 2002, I hope we become closer in 2003!
