You should be dating a Leo.
23 July – 22 August
This mate is honest and loyal, with a sunny disposition. Though this lion has the tendency to be arrogant, sulky or smug, he/she is unrestrained in bed.
Small steps, but I’ve taken them. I’m ready to be ready. Now the process is proactively healthy myself from the inside out. The journey is long, life long, but I am on my way.
If I act weird in the next few weeks, blame my doc. LOL
Musician Jody Whitesides emailed us with an interesting perspective on
Buymusic.com, the new Windows competitor to Apple’s iTunes Music Store:
My name is Jody Whitesides, I’m an artist that is about to be brought to the
Apple iTunes Music Store. Of course I recently heard about BuyMusic so I
decided to point my Mac browser at it (with Javascript turned off you can
see the site).
I did a search for one of my old CDs that will be going onto iTunes and
It turns out my CD was there on BuyMusic.com, as were the CDs of several
other bands that I’m friends with – all of whom were not contacted about
being placed for sale there.
Here’s what I’ve deduced… BuyMusic.com (which I will refer to as BM)
got their “vast” music library of 300,000 plus songs from a company called
The Orchard . The Orchard is a distribution company that has consistently
shafted artists [...] So, without the express consent of what is likely lots
of The Orchard’s catalog, BM has put it up for sale at the bargain price of
$.79 a song.
So, now they can tout they’re selling tracks at $.79, and they can say
they have a library of music of over 300,000 songs. But what they don’t tell
you is that it comes from musicians/bands who were not asked for permission,
and who will likely not see a penny of any sale made through BM. [...]
I’m currently looking into legal means to have my music removed from
their site and strongly encourage users to not browse BM’s site nor purchase
from it.
Yes, I have seen Pirates of the Caribbean three times. Yes, it is moving up to one of the top fav movies for me. Of course, I am a Disneyland nut, so this is not too hard to imagine.
Has anyone else noticed an audio-animatronic in the opening shot in Tortuga, up on the balcony? I’m going to have to check again I guess. Drat it all!
I thought Depp was outstanding, the cg was simply wonderful, the story was compelling. I want to take up fencing now.
I guess given that The Princess Bride and now Pirates are at the top of my list, this makes sense, no?
I hired a handyman to install my Sears Kenmore Air Conditioner (good thing too, just as I expected, was a goofy fit) He is cutting weatherproofing to seal off what the plenums did not (what a joke, gaps everywhere) and then I am going to silicone seal it up and paint it.
Already the temp has dropped a degree and that is with the window open. Now to see how much the unit cools the entire house (if at all) It is rated for about half the size, but was the biggest 115v unit I could get.
All I know is it is supposed to be 91 on Monday and if this thing can help the living room stay cooler than 80 degrees, it was worth it. Last week it was 93 inside my place and I had had enough!
Update: I was gone for an hour, and during that time, the outside temp went up 4 degrees to 79 while the house dropped 1/2 a degree to 74.5. So while this won’t be as efficient as forced a/c, it is much better than it used to be, which was matching the outside temp degree for degree.
Update: By popular demand I have posted a picture of the unit inside and one of it outside.
This article talks about a recent test run that left a 40cm hole in a shuttle carbon panel from a chunk of foam. The “smoking gun” seems to confirm that this is what doomed Columbia.
This hotel I stayed in has 802.11b. I had bought a Linksys card for my TiBook and it works, but only 2 bars, so NO WAY the airport would have worked. They told me it was not Mac compatible. I said “Give me the PC instructions” All I needed was the SSID. Then it worked. They said “What do Mac users need to do?” I said “Choose Other Network from the Airport Menu and enter the SSID” They said “That’s all?” I said, yep. ROFL
The PC instructions were 5 pages of getting to prefs and setting up a new network connection. LOL
I wanted better airport/802.11b reception so I looked into third party antennas. Then I found I could get a Macsense 802.11b card for $99 but nobody had them. So on a lark I bought a Linksys 802.11b/g card for $80 from CompUSA and was going to find some third party drivers or hacks to make it work.
Well lo and behold I read that as of Airport 3.1, Apple now supports some of the more popular cards, such as those based on the Broadcom chips! My linksys is, so I plugged it in….
Next I had four airports listed, oops heh. So I pulled out my airport card. Now I had just the one. For some reason the linksys won’t auto log into my hidden WEP network, so once I use the Airport menu to type in the network name/password, it works!
I did a quick test and where I used to get 1-2 bars, and virtually lost connection, I now get 3-4 bars, depending on how I sit. Once I go to the living room, I am 4 bars no matter what (whereas before, I used to be able to drop connection by sitting wrong)
Thanks Apple for supporting third party cards, after you dorked up the tibook with no reception! And hey, now I am ready for 802.11g, and can move this card to another laptop at will!
