I suck

Saturday, February 28th, 2004

I was out shopping with Elizabeth last night and bought a bottle of Pepsi, which I thought was a winner - Wrong. I suck! LOL

Change!

Friday, February 27th, 2004

It was suggested to me that I needed a little more color in my bathrooms, so color I have now, in the guest bath at least. At the same time, I have always hated how unorganized my bathrooms were, so a couple of trips to Bed, Bath and Beyond and I have all new shelving, both on the wall and under the sinks.

Very nice I must say. Even the kitchen sink cabinet is a little better organized. Now I need some art and color for my bedroom. And some couch pillows. And nightstands. heh

Great gifts

So Simeon was so awesome and got me a 20th Anniversary Apple poster and shipped it to me, so I framed it.

Then while out shopping with Elizabeth she hauled me into the going out of business KayBee Toys and I found the most awesome ornaments! I didn’t really have any of my own since the divorce, so this was extra special:

Fun weekend

Monday, February 23rd, 2004

I had a couple of dates with the same woman and it was a lot of fun to get out after a week inside. We went to Jenn’s tap group dance program which was thoroughly enjoyable. I have no idea how they remember all of those steps, it has to be millions!

People could not understand why I liked cake and margaritas, but I guess that is just me. :)

I am still gaining weight, due to the meds and I guess I’m going to have to get really serious about this before it gets totally out of hand. Now if there was a jamba juice within 2 miles, that could be a nice way to get lunch and some exercise.

I have been doing “ok” with the not eating after 9 thing, except for the last two days. Sigh.

Work has been good - Am trying to finish up this XP bug fix and get this feature set report off. It is taking longer than I had hoped.

I fell asleep on the couch - Woke up to Steve Edward’s Live on Fox. He and his two co-hosts are complete dolts. I have never heard so much mindless drivel.

I got an offer from a guy on Usenet to go talk about The Da Vinci code once I finish reading it. Hopefully we’ll drag a few others along as well!

So, life is good, I’m thankful for family, friends and work.

Never give up, Never surrender.

Went to the optometrist today. $360 later, I’ll have new lenses. My right eye is actually getting reduced one notch. I paid for an Optosis eye scan, is a new device, takes a 200 degree high res photo of your eye, laser enhanced. It showed a periphery degeneration in my right eye, which he said is not uncommon, but to keep an eye on it, so to speak. It was a large white mass on the outer edge.

This photo is cool because it shows things never seen before. They had a patient two weeks ago that came in for contacts, and had this test done and it showed a lateral retinal tear, which did not show up on any other tests. Fluid was building, so she had laser treatment to fix it, but that didn’t hold. She has a buckle on the eye now to hold it together while the retinal tissue heals.

Amazing this technology.

I finally got paid. but the check was made out weird so it might get rejected. Sigh. I’ll know in a week if I can pay my rent s

Taxes are due and I’m thinking of paying them on the credit card. More miles!

I have a date tonight, with a local gal no less, so local, she lives like 1/2 mile away. It is awesome to have a close friend!

I fixed the problem with TK3 running on XP in non-admin mode. It was the same problem OS X had, because TK3 (lamely) writes to files in its own directory. So now I move them to Application Data (thanks, Curt!) on a per user basis.

I won two iTunes!

Oh My God

I really like iTunes Music Store

Sunday, February 15th, 2004

I just purchased my 132nd song since the store opened. Much more than I normally buy in a year, and these are all songs I like.

I just saw Hedwig and the Angry Inch on DVD and loved the music, so I launched iTunes, did a search and yes, a partial album is there. I picked up 5 songs for $5 and am truly happy!

Say what you will about DRM, and yes I would love to see artists get a bigger cut, but we have to do one battle at a time. And the artists getting a little cut is better than NO cut which is what happens when people just steal music.

So if you can afford smokes, or a night of drinking, or a ice cream sundae, you can afford to pay for your music!

Update on moi

Wednesday, February 11th, 2004

Life has certainly been interesting as of late! On a personal note, I’ve had some really fun dates, I have been exploring myself more and more, taking more chances and have been pleased by what I have learned. I am on new meds which actually seem to be working - I’m finding it easier to focus, easier to think clearly and easier to read.

Speaking of reading, I am halfway through The Da Vinci Code. This book is incredibly entertaining and if you are into puzzles, art, history, Catholicism and lore, it is a definite read.

I was in NY earlier this week for an open source retreat held by the Andrew W Mellon foundation. I went to learn about other open source projects that are Mellon funded and how they might interoperate with TK4. The meeting was a smashing success and some good things may just come of it. I even impressed myself by getting up 4 hours after my date with Leah ended (all night drinking, I am not used to that!) to finish up my slides and give my talk. Things are definitely improving.

Speaking of dates, I’ve had some really nice ones. It is tough when the connection does not go both ways, but that’s life and one moves on. Getting to know more people is always a positive thing and I’ve enjoyed the people I have been meeting. I told Leah I tipped the car driver a bit extra for him having wood while listening to our discussion on dildos. ROFL.

The hotel in NY was amazing - I had a full kitchen (Seriously, gas stove, full sized fridge, microwave), a living room, a large desk with Aeron chair, king sized bed, even a cordless phone.

I ran out of cash while I was in NY - my ATM card had expired apparently and I had never received a new one. Lesson learned - check expiration dates before leaving town. Luckily most places took credit cards!

I’m working hard to explore myself and tackle barriers that exist due to being judgmental or naive. This has been scary at times, but all good things are at some point.

I’ve been gaining weight, ugh. Partly due to too many mochas, partly due to the new meds, partly due to eating late, partly due to not enough exercise. I am tackling all of these in earnest.

Well, I’m exhausted. My flight landed at 12:10am this morning and I did not get home until 1:30ish.

Live travels by at a constant rate - it is how often we take the time to sample it that makes life richer.

Finally

Wednesday, February 11th, 2004

The trailblazers finally traded away Rasheed Wallace. Yay! I can finally start to like this team. The old blazers were a bunch of self-involved, excuse making, trouble making players - These new guys appear community centric and maybe can give the kids someone to look up to.

Whoot speed!

I just reset my cable modem with Comcast and now I am getting 2915kbps!

Yes! 3megabit! (Aloha, oregon)

Fascinating

Monday, February 2nd, 2004

According to this story at Ars, TiVo data collected during the superbowl showed that people rewound to see Janet Jackson’s breast 3 times more than they did during any other part of the game.

What interesting data TiVo collects! I could care less, honestly. It fascinates me.

I only rewound twice.

YES thank you Safari

Finally, we can tab between UI elements, even popup menus, and arrow keys work, typing works, YES. YES. YES. I feel like a disheveled Windows user who finally got desktop icons working properly.

Music

Monday, February 2nd, 2004

I’m listening to Tom Jones and Barry Manilow. Sue me.

Timberliar never gets any of my business

Monday, February 2nd, 2004

Justin Timberlake, whose music I don’t like anyway, reduced himself to a coward last night. It’s not because he ripped off Janet’s breast cover. Which had a star on her nipple. Who cares. The FCC calls the act “deplorable.” Who cares. Stop making sex so god damned taboo and maybe we’d not be so fucked up over it.

Anyway, Justin loses any respect he didn’t have because he called it an accident. No balls Justin, what a wussy. Go home, I don’t want to hear anything from you again.

Safari closer but no cigar

Monday, February 2nd, 2004

Apple released a new Java and Safari today. I can finally open up a chat at matchdoctor (they use Digichat) but the cursor is in constant spin of death and clicks don’t work.

people wonder why I hate Java. Go figure.
