I’m infatuated!

Wednesday, November 30th, 2005

Sara and I have been dating for 11 days and I am infatuated.

I’ve had the pleasure and joy of having many amazing people in my life and I am joyed that they are still in my life. I wasn’t really sure when something “different” would happen, someone just different enough to make me feel “Yeah, this could be it” but Sara really could be it.

It is all too soon, all too fast but something just feels right.

Here are some pictures!

The Game Master Department is open 24 hours per day, 7 days per week. Please note that applicants must be able to work additional (overtime) hours and weekends as needed. Sorry, but there are no internship-level positions open at this time.

However, I’ll keep approving comments just to see how many people don’t read.

Anatomy of a toilet seat

Tuesday, November 22nd, 2005

Hinge broke. Got a new one. Drill battery dead. Got a new one. Holes didn’t match up. Sheered screw off in old seat. Old seat was crappy anyway. Went to home depot. Found one that matched my decor. Took pics. I’m a dork.

See?

Episode #010 2005-11-21

Monday, November 21st, 2005

You asked, I delivered! A podcast covering Macs, Sony, World of Warcraft and myself!

(I am not sure why this had so much static. Even Amadeus II had static. I forced Amadeus II to use Core Audio and then the static went away, even in Garage Band. Grr)

There is a mole among us!

Monday, November 21st, 2005

Just got back from the dermatologist. All moles checked out with no issues. I do have an appointment for the 5th to remove the large birthmark on my upper left shoulder, as he said it only gets harder to remove as it gets larger. That excision will take one hour and the stitches come out 10 days later, just in time for my xmas trip to Los Angeles.

I also showed him the white nodule on the side of my nose that showed up 4 or 5 years ago. He said it is a common type of wart and froze it. Now I have a red, blistery nose for 5-10 days while it decides when to die and fall off. LOL.

Sony adds kernel extensions to Mac, also!

Thursday, November 10th, 2005

While not as scary as Windows, if you use some Sony/BMG cds on your Mac, according to this Macintouch report, it will ask for your admin password (hey at least the Mac asks!) and then it installs two kernel extensions.

A kernel extension lives behind the wall of protection, so any bugs in the kernel extension could crash your computer, or look at data it should not be, etc.

It really is time for us all to boycott these Sony/BMG products.

Sony executive responds – Be insulted

Wednesday, November 9th, 2005

Ars is reporting that Sony has responded to this issue of them hacking Windows user’s kernels for their CD DRM.

You really should be insulted, infuriated and amused. Sony needs a clue, the industry needs a clue. Look at this quote from Thomas Hesse, President of Sony BMG’s global digital business division:

“Most people, I think, don’t even know what a rootkit is, so why should they care about it,” he asked? “The software is designed to protect our CDs from unauthorized copying, ripping.”

Wow. Utterly wow.

Windows Users alert! Do not use CDs from Sony/BMG

Tuesday, November 8th, 2005

According to this report, when you listen to a enhanced CD from Sony/BMG, it will ask you to sign a EULA (End User License Agreement) to play the content (even just the music)

When you give it permission, a “root kit” is installed on your Windows computer. This root kit hacks the operating itself such that the os can no longer see the root kit. This hides their copy protection from you.

This is evil on so many levels, but guess what? it is buggy. So much so, that if a hacker names a file $SYS$ on your computer, it is hidden forever. Virus scan cannot see it, nobody can see it.

So thanks to DRM and your friends at Sony, they’ve made it very easy for hackers to hide files on your system. Isn’t that great?

Oh yeah, it also scans your disk often, slowing down the computer and even reports to Sony which songs you are listening to. Nice! Don’t you feel violated? You’d better!

Return all enhanced Sony/BMG music CDs now. I know I am seriously thinking of not buying a PS3 now. These companies need to learn they cannot screw with us without repercussions.
