Things you can’t live without if trapped in a mine

Tuesday, May 9th, 2006

Two Australian miners were trapped for 2 weeks. For 5 days they survived on one cereal bar and licked water seeping in. Then they were found by thermal imaging 3,000 feet down and rescuers drilled enough to get them items to live on until they could clear the blockage, some 9 days later.

The items requested? Food, water and iPods loaded with foo fighters.

How easily people give up their identity

Tuesday, May 9th, 2006

KGW (local news) and the Better Business Bureau made a fake “Office of Spam Control” and made a form, went down to PSU and offered people $5 to sign up for spam blocking. The form asked for email address, passowrd, SSN #, address, name. And it even said at the bottom “For the lure of a five dollar bill I have actually given a complete stranger my information so they can steal my identity”

The piece interviewed 4 people who gave up all of their information.

With Sony announcing a $599 price for a HD ready PS 3, and MS charging upwards of $500 for theirs, I’m sorry, games are officially too expensive.

Macs on “Las Vegas”

Saturday, May 6th, 2006

WoW, there was just an ad for Macs on the show “Las Vegas” (About a casino) They have an “iLounge” and the head of security says “These new Intel iMacs are great, twice as fast and they have a built in camera” and they cut to the two of them on Photo Booth.

I am not sure I have ever heard an Apple Macintosh computer name mentioned on a show before.

Haha and then this loser comes up to Mary at an iMac and says “Do you think a PC guy and a Mac gal could get it on?”

Time for a new line of Macintosh ads

Tuesday, May 2nd, 2006

I’m not very happy with the new Apple ads. Sure, I am the biggest Mac biggot of them all, but like the switcher ads which didn’t work to much success, I don’t think that belittling others is a way to endear them.

Ok, the Mac is better at viruses and networking and such, but it has its own flaws.

Rather, I’d like to see some high energy iPodesque ads, showing people making movies, Word documents, photo books, slide shows, podcasts, music. Being creative and positive with their Macs.

If Windows is really as bad as we like to make out, then Windows users will notice how much better the Mac is by simply showing what the Mac does and how.

They don’t need to be mocked.

Ah! My Shredder is alive!

Monday, May 1st, 2006

Twice today my shredder started shredding. I’ve had it for 4 1/2 years, so this is surely new behavior.

It turns out that with the move, the recent sun and the new location of said shredder, the sunlight hits the sensor just right to trick it into thinking the sensor is blocked and thus it activates.

Ahhhh technology :)
