I have shipped the latest maintenance release of BetterHTMLExport, version 2.3.2!

Included in the changes are:

1. Added “Replace Existing Files” option – Uncheck this and BetterHTMLExport will abort instead of replacing existing files
2. Fix for only exporting to the first directory chosen
3. Fix for reading ISO from images
4. Changed tab to “BetterHTMLExport”
5. Fix for crash when selecting cancel
6. Fixed Documentation button on Info Panel

The “Replace Existing Files” option, on by default, allows you to disable the ability for BetterHTMLEXport to replace any existing files (duh). This is a good feature for those concerned about the software replacing any files.

For those of you considering Leopard and using iPhoto 7 (iLife ‘08), BetterHTMLExport 2.3 has been tested and qualified for the new cat.

For older versions of BetterHTMLExport, that require older versions of iPhoto, I would suggest upgrading to iPhoto 7 because it is designed to work with Leopard and Time Machine, not to mention the other niceties the upgrade offers.

Upgrades to BetterHTMLExport 2.3 are free.

1. Properly cancels exporting if you encounter an error
2. Pressing cancel on a directory exists dialog will no longer insist on exporting to the original directory

Now that Apple fully supports iPhoto plugins, I was able to clean up a number of little issues as well as add compatibility with iPhoto 7.

Due to these changes, BetterHTMLExport 2.3 only works with iPhoto 7. Older versions of BetterHTMLExport continue to work with their respective versions of iPhoto.

The BetterHTMLExport Tool suffered too many changes to remain compatibile at this time so it has been removed from the package. The BetterHTMLExport Tool remains compatible with older versions of iPhoto.

Changes include:

1. Compatible with iPhoto 7.0 (iLife ‘08) only
2. BetterHTMLExport is now installed into /Library/Application Support/iPhoto/PlugIns/
3. The BetterHTMLExport installer now deletes older copies of BetterHTMLExport that are installed inside of iPhoto
4. Catch divide by zero errors and cancel export with error message
5. Previous EXIF information is fully exported
6. BetterHTMLExport Tool removed from distribution due to incompatibilities with iPhoto 07 (iLife ‘08)
7. Compete rewrite of IPTC extraction. More image formats supported.
8. Now load IPTC from original photo. If there is a modified photo available, we merge in the IPTC from that image.
9. Fixed crash when an extra settings item had no value.
10. Changed how the iPhoto Plugin finds an images IPTC data.
11. Changed the installer to check for iPhoto 7 or later
12. Fixed a bug extracting the photo name
13. “archived date” and “modified date” variables are no longer supported by iPhoto and thus this data is no longer exported

• Fix for templates exploding into main template directory, and thus overwriting bits of other templates. This happened on multiple processor machines.

June 1, 2006 – Geeks R Us has shipped version 2.2 of BetterHTMLExport, a popular plugin for iPhoto 5 or iPhoto 6.

This new version represents the first version from Geeks R Us and brings Universal support for both PPC and Intel Macintosh computers.
