FIOS Customer Service

Tuesday, February 27th, 2007

I’ve been having some odd performance issues and have been trying to track them down. A Verizon technician came out, checked my jack, my light and it all looks good.

Then he heard I was still on PPoE and said “We should get you moved to DHCP” which I agreed with.

This afternoon he called me saying his supervisor said “no” and that the only way to switch me would be for me to call in, cancel my service and then sign back up! How ridiculous is that?

But there is a method to their madness - I’m still on the early adopter rate and canceling would get them out of that contract.

How sleezy is that?

Elizabeth is getting FIOS next week! Her apartment complex has opted in and every unit is getting installed, whether the individual renter pays for it or not. Every unit gets a ONT and UPS.

Awesome!

Remember to run Apple’s Broadband Tuner from time to time

Thursday, January 11th, 2007

I ran my usual performance test to UC Santa Cruz and was only getting 10 of the 15 MB/s I should be getting on FIOS. So I installed the Apple Broadband Tuner and whoopee, immediately up to 15MB/s.

I guess I never ran this while using Ethernet, or installing OS X Updates negates these settings. I’ll be sure to check my speeds after the next update!
