Magic Link Likes & Dislikes 10/11/95
I understand that my reports can be full of information and yet at the same time run on for too long. Thus, I've started this page to allow me to track in a simpler manner my likes and dislikes of the Sony Magic Link.I'll try and go over my previous reports in order to help me remember what I liked and didn't like last year but for now, I'll rattle off those items that are on the top of my head.
Likes
- Address Book - Coolest on the market
- Stamps - Very cool organizational method
- Customizable datebook events
- Phone headset (would use if had better screen!)
- Grafitti
- External Keyboard (But its too noisy!)
- Ease of use
- Lithium Ion battery is awesome
- Klondike - Has made plenty a plane trip bearable
- Notetaking with ext. keyboard. Not as cool as a PowerBook on a plane, however. It can be a jumble when food arrives.
Dislikes
- The screen sucks. It is now darker down the left hand side.
- Stamps with text on address cards do not get transferred through PersonaLink.
- Dropping a notepad page onto an email and sending it to an Internet user does not get the text out of the notecard. All the data is ignored.
- No birthday stamp!
- Too slow.
- Data on card takes up room on internal memory.
- Magic Exchange
- Poor integration with desktop PIMs
- Development environment. NTK/Soups are much easier to develop for
- email - Its cool, but unusable because of speed, ram and integration problems
- Wrong form factor. Either make is 8x11x1 or make it more Newton sized.
- Little interface gotchas, like trying to insert a caret but getting an ink mark
- No Undo
- Backing up is a joke
- Storeroom memory meters more confusing than useful
- Market Square never happened
- All of the cool Telescript stuff never happened
Wants
- Seemless integration between PDA and desktop apps. Requires all developers to agree on a data transfer/lookup API
- Backlit screen and screen that is easier to read in soft light
- (maybe) Magic Cap interface for desktop that is just that - interface, to handhelp unit. All data is stored and retrieved from unit itself.
